Gabrielle Union and New York & Company are back with another rollout. Releasing today, Union has partnered up with the casual work-wear brand to launch a chic new fall collection. Earlier this year, Gabrielle launched a capsule collection that included pieces inspired by her street-style. Now she is back with a new fall collection that is inspired by the cool, comfortable, and fly pieces she wears in her day-to-day.
Mrs.Union-Wade always has the best fashion. Whether she’s dancing around in designer gowns or enjoying the summer in her basics, she’s always know how to pull off a lewk. And now you can purchase items that were specifically designed by Gabrielle Union. The campaign for this collection also features strong women in their perspective fields coming together to celebrate the growing partnership with Union and New York & Company. The campaign stars Candace Parker, Dania Ramirez, Isis King, and Nia Sioux.
If you follow the actress on Instagram, then you’re aware of her constant support for hard-working women by allotting her Wednesday post to celebrating boss ladies. Now with a new collection on the horizon, she has used her platform to also celebrate other women. In other words, Gabrielle Union is a class act.
ESSENCE got a chance to chat with Union about her new collection, read below.
ESSENCE: What makes this collection so special?
Union: The collection really shows the many sides of me and how I dress. What makes this collection particularly special is that I was able to have these strong, powerful women join me in this new campaign. It was fun to see how each woman interpreted the pieces and made them her own.
“Inclusivity a huge factor when I envision what each collection looks like, so I could not be more proud of the outcome.”
ESSENCE: Why did you choose for these powerful women to spearhead this campaign?
Union: They are fearless women who I’ve long admired and who have used their platforms to bring about positive change. The slogan that we used for this collection is IM-PERFECT, and it’s about celebrating and empowering women who are living their truths. It was important to me to have women of all shapes, sizes, ages, and backgrounds included in this campaign. Inclusivity a huge factor when I envision what each collection looks like, so I could not be more proud of the outcome.
ESSENCE: What is your favorite piece from this collection?
Union: The strapless maxi dress is one of my favorite pieces. I wore the printed maxi dress from our spring collection on America’s Got Talent and the dress sold out in less than a week. I got some amazing feedback from customers so we brought the dress back both in the print and in green. This dress may or may not pop up again throughout my holiday collection in different colors and prints.
ESSENCE: Describe the design and creative direction process for this collection?
Union: I work with an incredible team at New York & Company. It all stems from what I’ll want to be wearing in the coming months. Then we pick colors, fabrics, and try the pieces on to see how they fit on real people. I’m all about fit. Our design meetings last hours, and they sometimes include tequila – I swear it gets the creativity going.
While I’m crazy about fashion, I’m also all about balance and want to make sure I create looks that not only I would wear, but that my mom, aunts, cousins, friends, and sisters would want to rock. Inclusivity has always been important to me as well as comfortability and affordability. For this collection in particular, I wanted to think outside of the box when it came to colors.
