To say Issa Rae is having a great year would be an understatement— the actress and creator of the hit HBO show, Insecure, has had an amazing year and now has one more achievement to tick off her list! Rae has been selected to host this year’s Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Fashion Awards.
Rae shared the news via her Twitter page by saying, “So excited to announce that I will be hosting the 2018 CFDA Fashion Awards on June 4th. Mark your calendars!”
Rae will also be the first female host for the major fashion ceremony in almost a decade. In a press release, CFDA president and CEO Steven Kolb said, “Issa Rae is leading a new generation of performers who use their voice and humor to discuss social topics in a way that is relatable and poignant.”
Considering Seth Myers hosted last year, we’re super excited to see not only a woman, but a Black one taking on the role as host. Stars like Rihanna and Janelle Monae as well as numerous fashion designers have been honored at previous CFDA Awards.
The nominees and honorees will be announced on CFDA’s Instagram on March 15. Rae will host the 2018 CFDA Awards in partnership with Swarovski on June 4 at the Brooklyn Museum.
