One of our favorite fashion retailers and one of our favorite size-inclusive brands have just teamed up for an exciting collaboration! J.Crew has announced that it’s teaming up with Universal Standard on a capsule collection.
The collection, which will launch with seventeen styles for summer and fall, will be available in sizes 0-32.
Even though the average woman in America is technically considered plus size, many fashion labels and retailers have been resistant to becoming more inclusive with their sizing. Certain brands like Christian Siriano, Chromat and Tadashi Shoji, have championed for plus size fashion and helped pave the way for amazing partnerships like this to happen and we couldn’t be more excited!
ESSENCE spoke with Alexandra Waldman, co-founder and creative director of Universal Standard to learn more about the J.Crew x Universal Standard capsule collection.
Keep reading to learn how the collaboration happened, what you can expect from the collection and more.
Why did J.Crew and Universal Standard decide to collaborate on a collection?
The average woman in the US is a size 16/18, yet that group is severely underrepresented in retail. When J.Crew approached us about partnering to expand their size range, we saw this as an opportunity to partner with a beloved American brand and further our mission of creating a world in which all fashion is size inclusive. This is a huge move towards allowing all women to have equal access to quality, modern clothing, and a massive shift in attitude in the fashion industry led by a beloved mainstream brand.
What can customers expect from this exciting new inclusive collection?
Uniquely, the J.Crew x Universal Standard collection will offer sizes from 0-32, allowing all women access to the styles they love. The collection includes 17 items from tops and pants, to dresses and skirts; it’s the perfect pairing of our brands’ unique aesthetic.
Which 12 J.Crew stores will the collection be available at? And will it be available in all sizes both in stores and online?
The capsule collection will be available at the following J.Crew stores nationwide: 5th Ave, SFC, Short Hills Mall, N. Michigan Ave, Lenox Square, Georgetown, Copley, KOP, Highland Village, The Grove, Pioneer Place and Southdale. All items in the collection will be available in these select stores and online at www.jcrew.com.
Lastly, could this potentially turn into a long-term collaboration between the two brands?
We hope there will be excitement over the collaboration, and we hope to continue working with J. Crew in the sizing space… Stay tuned!
