Kanye West debuted his much talked about Yeezy Season 5 show today in New York City.
The much more pared-down show lasted a mere 13-minutes and was starkly different from his Yeezy Season 4 extravaganza.
According to Vogue, there was no appearance from West, just projections on screens of the models followed by a brief finale walk.
West did keep in the same vein of casting a diverse set of models. This year’s lineup included Lauryn Hill’s daughter Selah Marley and 19-year-old Halima Aden — the Solmali-American model who just signed with IMG and competed in the 2016 Miss Minnesota USA contest while making headlines for wearing a hijab during most of the competition. She wore her hijab in today’s show of course, making a subtle yet noted statement of inclusivity.
The soft social commentary is interesting considering Kanye’s previous and widely discussed meeting with Donald Trump, but in line with his latest moves to remove himself from that association.
Guests of the show received invites with crewnecks that either read Mulholland or Lost Hills, pieces that are also included in the collection.
The clothes themselves were a mix of suede, leather, shearling, camo and simple, athletic monochrome pieces in addition to something new for West —denim. He also introduced a new, bulky sneaker shape dubbed, the runner.
As fashion week comes to a close, Kanye West has yet another Yeezy Season on the books.
