Towards the end of 2018, Rowland prefaced her 2019 takeover in third-person while delivering rapid-fire lyrics on her critically-acclaimed song, “Kelly.” On the song she proclaims: “Kelly got deals, Kelly pop tags, Kelly got flex. Kelly ain’t humble no more, Kelly got a foot on your throat,” and she’s proving herself strong by partnering with activewear brand Fabletics.
The company (founded by Hollywood actress Kate Hudson, in 2013), tapped Rowland to design a limited-edition capsule collection that features sporty crop-tops, breathable leggings, athleisure hoodies and much more— all of which Rowland says are, “designed for every beautiful woman and every beautiful curve.”
We caught up with Rowland during the holidays to get the exclusive scoop on her new fitness collection. Read more below!
ESSENCE: Tell us how the partnership with Fabletics came about?
ROWLAND: I partnered with Fabletics because of their versatility and ability to create clothes for every woman and every activity. They’ve created this amazing community that is focused on empowering all women to look and feel their best, and I wanted to be a part of that movement. I love that their pieces give me so much freedom to move and go-about my day, effortlessly, and I pulled inspiration for my collection from all the different aspects of my life– my career as a performer, my love for dance and my life as a working mom. Recently, I was wearing a pair of Fabletics leggings while getting my son ready for school (I was juggling his school project, lunch and backpack in my hands, so I slipped my phone and credit card into the side pocket), they saved my day, and helped me keep up with Titan without missing a beat!
ESSENCE: Are there a range of sizes available for customers?
ROWLAND: The items in my capsule collection range from size XX-S to size 3-X. I love that Fabletics is so body-positive and inclusive, and I wanted to make sure that my collection was the same way. My collection is cute and functional, but also strong, bold and unapologetic. I want women to feel powerful– like they can take on anything.
ESSENCE: How important is fit and comfortability for your workout attire?
ROWLAND: Fit and functionality are so important! My clothes need to be able to move with me; I’m constantly on the go and it’s important to have clothes that work for me and make me feel my best.
ESSENCE: What’s on your playlist for working out?
ROWLAND: “I Would Die 4 U” by Prince, “Starboy” by The Weeknd, “Fu-Gee-La” by The Fugees, “DNA.” by Kendrick Lamar, “Feelin’ It” by Jay-Z, and “Universal Mind Control” by Common.
ESSENCE: What are your 2019 body goals?
ROWLAND: To get legs like Serena Williams.
