Not only is the Grammy Award-winning entertainer celebrating the 20th anniversary of her acclaimed album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, with a tour, but the singer also just starred in her very first fashion campaign for Woolrich!
Woolrich is an American brand that was founded in 1830 and considers itself “the original outdoor clothing company”, and they picked Hill as the star for their fall/winter 2018 campaign. As is fitting, the campaign is titled, “Woolrich: American Soul Since 1830.”
The campaign was shot by photographer Jack Davison in the Harlem and Washington Heights neighborhoods of New York City. Hill is pictured outfitted in various stylish pieces, including a fur-trimmed hoodie and a checkered coat.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Woolrich’s creative director, Andrea Cane, explained why they selected Hill for the campaign.
“The opportunity to work with Ms. Hill was the perfect start to our ongoing ‘American Soul’ project, highlighting Woolrich’s American heritage,” Cane said. “We wanted Ms. Hill to bring her unique artistic eye to the product and DNA of the brand, so we invited her to put her own spin on these classic Woolrich styles.”
Hill also collaborated with Woolrich to design a capsule collection for the brand. The pieces designed by the rapper, singer and actress feature prints of her album cover as well as photos of herself. Hill also revealed that she has actually been designing and sewing her own clothes for the past few years, so the collaboration was very natural for her.
