Singer and style icon Rihanna never ceases to slay a red carpet or any public appearance for that matter. If she’s not ahead of the trends, she’s setting them. The “Wild Thoughts” singer was recently spotted in London leaving a party, and while she looked fierce in a little black dress, we couldn’t help but notice her throwback-inspired accessories. From her choker to her pearl anklets, it’s safe to say that Rihanna embracing the ’90s is a sign the trend is here to stay.
Besides chokers and ankle jewelry making a comeback, here’s a closer look at seven other ’90s fashion trends that have recently resurged, and that you should consider trying yourself.
The Adidas Tracksuit
Adidas tracksuits first made their major trendy debut when hip-hop groups like Run-DMC sported them back in the late ‘80s. Then, artists like Missy Elliott made them a must-have again throughout her expansive career. Now, the sporty outfit (as well as the athletic brand’s slides) have become a popular style again amongst both women and men.
Bike Shorts
Bike shorts made an impressive comeback over the past year. Teyana Taylor has been seen wearing them, and even Naomi Campbell closed Off-White’s Spring 2018 runway while wearing them with a blazer at Paris Fashion Week.
Fanny Packs
Fanny packs, or belt bags, used to be one of our all-time childhood favorites, and now the fanny pack has become the bag of choice for stylish celebrities, models, fashion influencers and more. Blogger Gabi Fresh is regularly spotted wearing one.
High-waisted Jeans
If there’s one ‘90s denim trend that’s made a major comeback, it’s definitely high-waisted jeans. The denim style has become a favorite of celebrities like Nicki Minaj and Cardi B, and Fashion Nova considers high-waisted jeans as one of their bestsellers.
Plaid
We’ve seen plaid in addition to flannel, gingham, and other checked prints recently make a huge resurgence. Reminiscent of ’90s hit movies like Clueless, the print was a major trend on the Fall 2018 runways.
Slip Dresses
When it comes to the styles that defined this era, one could say no item embodies the flirty-sexy style more than a slip dress. The throwback style definitely has some modern fans, we’ve seen everyone from Chanel Iman to Rihanna (of course!) rocking a slip dress.
Mules
In the ’90s, popular shoe trends included transparent sandals, kitten heels, and mules. One of our personal favorites, mules are trending this season, and have been refashioned in a number of imaginative styles from closed to open-toe styles and flats to stilettos.
