If Solange is known for anything, it’s showing her authentic self in all settings— including the Met Gala.
On Monday, the “Don’t Touch My Hair” singer attended the 2018 Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Gala wearing a black PVC Iris van Herpen dress, leather boots, a black durag and halo made from blonde braids—a combined effort from Shani Crowe (aka Crowzilla) and Jawara.
Head-to-toe SoLo looked amazing, but her stand-out item —hands down— was the durag.
The theme of the night was “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” and Solange decided to pay homage to her people. As a way to let styled hair set in place, rest or create waves, the durag is a quintessential accessory in Black culture —in all its beauty. And to hit the nail on its head, Solange’s du-rag read “My God Wears A Durag” in the back.
Solange also posted a video on Instagram showcasing the bedazzled du-rag.
The A Seat At The Table singer wasn’t just protecting her hair and locking in the moisture of her platinum blonde hair, she was also making a statement and Twitter loved it.
