Natasha Green wed Kevin Reynold in an intimate affair on June 19, 2009 at Johnathan’s American Bar & Grille in Garden City Park, New York.
This thirty-something couple bypassed the bells and whistles of a large, lavish affair. Both the wedding ceremony and reception took place (sans a wedding party) over brunch with their closet family and friends.
The bride’s favorite flowers are lilies and orchids. Remembering this, Kevin proposed to his beloved by hiding an engagement ring in a bouquet of the buds after cooking her a surprise dinner of pineapple chicken.
“I totally wasn’t expecting a proposal because I was just complaining to him about doing all the housework,” recalls Natasha with a laugh.
The bride purchased her empire waist, spaghetti strap wedding gown from David’s Bridal. Natasha opted for a low-key wedding because she didn’t want “too many voices and opinions trying to weigh in” on her special day.
The loving couple first bonded in June 2004 while stuck in traffic on New York’s Southern State Parkway.
“I was jamming to my Carl Thomas CD and he started talking to me. He made me laugh after making fun of my singing, we exchanged cellular numbers and shortly after started dating,” remembers Natasha about she and Kevin’s first meeting.
The groom is all smiles before marrying the love of his life.
The bride and groom happily share a sweet kiss before their 90 guests.
Natasha strikes a pose with her mother who also walked her down the aisle in lieu of her deceased father.
“She’s my best friend,” says Natasha of her mom.
“I decided that Natasha is the woman I want to spend the rest of my life with after admiring her distinctiveness, her disposition, her self-determination and the way she was brought up. She’s also caring, funny and smart,” explains Kevin about his wife.
“Natasha was and still is always honest and transparent with me and that carries a premium in my outlook,” declares Kevin.
The newlyweds spend Sunday evenings with Natasha’s mother for dinner. It is a tradition that the pair started while they were still courting.
Natasha feeds her new husband a piece of their wedding cake, strawberry shortcake. Traditional Jamaican black cake, baked by the groom’s mother, was also given to guests as a favor.
Natasha enlisted her good friend and fellow teacher Asewe to marry her for the formal ceremony.
“We were technically married about a week before at the justice of the peace so we saved about $500 by not hiring a fancy officiant,” schools Natasha.
The newlyweds are pictured here surrounded by Kevin’s family.
“After Natasha and I dated for a while and seeing her special qualities –- introducing her to my family was just a mere formality,” Kevin says.
Natasha makes time for the camera with her older brother Anthony and their mother.
The bride and groom are surrounded by loved ones who came out to support their union.
“One of the best parts of the day was taking pictures and greeting all our guests at their tables as the new Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Reynolds,” Natasha says.
Guests at Natasha and Kevin’s wedding dined on traditional brunch fare including assorted pastries, fruits, garden salad, penne alla vodka and Atlantic Mediterranean-style salmon.
The newlyweds both enjoy traveling and look forward to becoming regular jet-setters now that they’re married. The spent one glorious week in St. Maarten for their honeymoon.
“We’re probably go to Jamaica and visit Kevin’s childhood home for Christmas,” says Natasha.
Natasha admits that she was skeptical about ever walking down the aisle of matrimony prior to meeting Kevin.
“It usually took me so long to settle into a relationship. I thought I might never find the find the right one,” Natasha explains surrounded here by the groom and all his best buddies.
Natasha, a high school English teacher and Kevin, a computer analyst, were both determined not to go into debt for a wedding.
“I wasn’t even going to have a ceremony at all but we decided to do something small for our mothers,” explains Natasha pictured here with her mother by her side (in pink).
