Beyonce’s epic Super Bowl XLVII style was designed by NYC-based designer Rubin Singer. Knowles wore a leather body suit reminiscent of body armor, with strips of engineered python, paneled iguana and trapunto stitched leather sewn together. The flounce skirt and insets was made up of delicate chantilly lace. “This piece is truly couture in every way,” said Rubin Singer.
Designer Inspiration: The stage costumes are based on Rubin Singer’s upcoming Fall 2013 collection entitled “Valkyrie’s Dominion.” In Norse mythhology a Valkyrie is a female figure who decides which soldiers die in battle and which live. A woman with power focus and unbridled sexuality; not unlike Ms. Knowles herself, was the starting point.
“My seamstresses were assembling all of the leather and exotic skins individually by hand. All of the pieces were seperate details that were all constructed on her body. We had to make the body suit have a tremendous range of motion and flexibilty. Beyonce is such a fierce performer we could not have the outfit constrict her in any way,” explains Singer.
