Thebe Magugu is a young South African designer who’s craftsmanship shone brightly on the first day of South African Fashion Week SS17. In a time, when taking care of US is so paramount, a collection inspired by the yearning for self-care deserves a closer look. Aptly titled Geology, Thebe Magugu’s Spring/Summer ’17 Collection is, in his own words, ” inspired by the idea of escaping into the wild. I was just fed up with all the pressures of day to day urban life and imagined a woman having to take to the great outdoors and surviving.”
The escape to the wild can be seen in the hiking gear rope found on his pieces, the Koi fish print and perforated fabrics. Magugu takes a page from the design of cargo pants, which can be seen in his multi-pocketed denim piece — because we all need extra places to carry our favorite face serums and lip stains, even when we’re taking a self-care moment in the wilderness! No? Just me?
The Thebe Magugu Spring/Summer ’17 Collection was shown in collaboration with WOOLWORTHS SA as part of a capsule collection that will be available for sale in 5 of its locations in South Africa and online here.
