As Tiffany Haddish always, emphatically proclaims, “She ready!” The “Girls Trip” actress definitely was as she hosted the annual MTV Movie & TV Awards Monday night in Los Angeles, California. Haddish was ready for the fashion gods — and to put on a show!
ESSENCE was in attendance as Haddish utterly slayed her role as the evening’s hostess. This marks the fist time in MTV’s history that a Black woman has hosted the event and Haddish made sure to leave a lasting impression!
As an ESSENCE cover girl, it’s no surprise that Haddish took full control in front of the camera and her wardrobe changes were just as epic as her energy. Dressed by celebrity stylist Law Roach, Haddish wore a total of eight looks on stage during the entire night, and she wowed the audience each time she re-emerged with a new look!

Her opening ensemble paid homage to Cardi B‘s Saturday Night Live white pregnancy dress performance, and she even sang a rendition of Cardi’s hit song “Bodak Yellow” while wearing a fake baby bump.
Next up was the return of her famous Alexander McQueen dress (which by now has it’s own cult following). She followed up the McQueen piece with a rendition of Meghan Markle‘s wedding dress regalia- replete with two aides carrying her long train. After her royal moment, it was time for breakfast — not literally but figuratively — as Haddish added pun to Audrey Hepburn’s famous “Breakfast At Tiffany’s” little black dress worn with pearls, long gloves and an updo hairstyle.
AND there’s more! Haddish herself couldn’t even keep up with the outfit changes, as evidenced by her running on stage gasping for air in a robe and slippers to accept the award for Best Comedic Performance for her role in the ESSENCE Fest-inspired film, “Girls Trip.” After regaining her composure backstage, Haddish returned to the stage dressed in a circus-inspired ensemble with a green velvet hat, curtain dress and gold trimming. For the final awards category of Best Film, Haddish introduced presenter Lady Gaga, wearing an identical rendition of Vanessa Bell Calloway‘s iconic gold wedding dress from the film “Coming To America.” We should’ve known that Black Panther was going to win this award as Haddish so elegantly gave us a wardrobe hint!
Closing out the show, Haddish graced the stage one last time wearing a sharp, white pants suit! Her hair was laid in a sharp bob cut, and of course her makeup was flawless… dancing on stage as the audience applauded her job well done, she exclaimed, “See you at the after-party… see you at the afterrr-partaayy!”
Cheers to you, queen!! We are witnessing a fashion diva in the making!
