If you’ve ever seen a voguing competition up close and personal, you know there is true talent and athleticism that goes into the vibrant and expressive form of dance.
Nike is recognizing voguing as a sport while celebrating the LGBTQ community and Pride Month with it’s latest BETRUE collection.
Starring in the campaign promoting inclusivity is choreographer and vogue legend, Leiomy Maldonado, also known as the “Leading Lady of Voguing.” As the first transgender woman to appear on America’s Best Dance Crew, Leiomy is now showing off her immense talent as the front woman of Nike’s effort to encourage athletes of all kinds to be true to who they are.
Born and raised in the Bronx, New York, Leiomy has become a fixture in the voguing community by honing in on the craft that she says helped her become who she is.
The dancer took to Instagram to announce her partnership with Nike, expressing how much it means to be a part of such a meaningful campaign.
Another champion of the LGBTQ community Laverne Cox shared her excitement for the Ad via Instagram saying,
From announcing the release of the first hijab for Muslim female athletes to new, more inclusive size ranges for women, Nike has been all about equality as of late and it’s great to see them push the envelope even further.
