“Why be racist, sexist, homophobic, or transphobic when you could just be quiet?” Frank Ocean wore these words on a T-shirt on Friday night at the Panorama Music Festival in New York City.
Frank Ocean’s message may have something to do with President Donald Trump’s recent decision to ban transgender people from serving in the military. As a supporter and member of the LGBTQ community, the message could simply be close to Ocean’s heart.
Whatever the reason, the shirt and its message are getting attention. And we have 18-year-old activist and T-shirt designer Kayla Robinson to thank for it.
Robinson started designing social justice T-shirts a year ago under the name Green Box Shop. In her store’s About Us section, she says she wanted to make shirts that would “really would grab someone’s attention.”
And after seeing Ocean wearing her work, Robinson was excited, to say the least.
“IM ACTUALLY CRYING BC THE LORD HIMSELF IS WEARING MY CREATION,” Robinson wrote.
Ocean’s endorsement was a complete surprise to Robinson, who found out after a friend texted her.
However, the teen is no stranger to celebs loving her designs.
First of all, Zendaya gave a huge shout out to her collection back in January.
And then, Jessica Williams loved this tee.
Robinson’s shirts are all ethically sourced, with some shirts’ proceeds going to charity.
This “Climate change is real. Trump is a hoax” tee sends 50 percent of proceeds to the The Honeybee Conservancy, for example.
Shirts worn by Ocean and Williams are still available on Robinson’s website for just $19, but we can imagine they may go quickly!
