The inaugural ESSENCE Global Black Economic Forum launched at the 2019 ESSENCE Festival in New Orleans was a meeting of the minds between some of the most influential business executives, trailblazing entrepreneurs and respected dignitaries in the world.
Among the conversations that took place was a powerful discussion between ESSENCE Ventures Founder and Chair, Richelieu Dennis, and Twitter/Square Co-Founder and CEO, Jack Dorsey. During an intimate fireside chat, Dorsey and Dennis dug into several topics, including thoughts on the purchasing power of Black communities, empowering entrepreneurs through the creation of Square, the wealth gap in the United States and the impact of Black Twitter.
“In terms of Black Twitter, it’s Twitter. I mean, it does drive culture,” Dorsey said in response to a question from Dennis about the influence of Black Twitter. “It is such a powerful force and the amazing thing about it is, it’s so decentralized.”
