EMF: SWV Playlist
“Weak”
This 1992 jam introduced most of us to SWV, a group we’d come to know and love for almost a decade. And honestly, is there a better song to wail drunkenly with friends?
“I’m So Into You”
Leather vests? Leather shorts? Combat boots, beanies and a Ronnette-esque pompadour? Yes, let the late 1990s style reign down upon us.
“Right Here/ Human Nature”
Drawing a bit of Michael Jackson’s pop classic “Human Nature,” SWV put together a timeless track in “Right Here” that brought new life to even the King of Pop’s hit.
“Anything”
Kicking off the Above The Rim soundtrack, which starred Duane Martin, Leon and the late greats Tupac Shakur and Bernie Mac, “Anything” was a jam that could get any party going. Especially if you notice the snapshots of early supermodel Tyson Beckford wearing nothing but a towel …
“Use Your Heart”
Helmed by the Neptunes — yes, Pharrell Williams and his buddy Chad Hugo are behind this slow jam — “Use Your Heart” was the second single from SWV’s sophomore album, New Beginnings.
“Can We”
Joining Missy Elliott for this “Booty Call” soundtrack song, the trio crafted the sultry seductive “Can We.” Doesn’t this video make you want to wear something made of animal print?
“You’re The One”
Boasting a bouncy beat, “You’re The One” tumbled into our hearts and rolled up the top of Billboard charts as one of the group’s breakout pop hits.
“Downtown”
“Move on down, get closer to my sensitivity,” sings Coko on “Downtown,” a Midnight Love radio classic. Did you dedicate this song to anyone?
Coko’s “Sunshine”
“Sunshine” was Coko’s first single as a solo artist after she broke away from SWV to release her 1999 album Hot Coko.
“Co-Sign”
Collaborating after a decade apart, SWV released “Co-Sign” as the first single from their reunion album, “I Missed Us.”
