It’s time for up-and-coming R&B singer Sevyn Streeter to get in the hot seat. Find out what she’s doing to prepare for her debut performance and what she’s looking forward to most in New Orleans.
What’s the first thing that comes to mind when someone mentions the Essence Festival?
A party in New Orleans. I automatically envision Bourbon Street looking crazy.
What are you doing to prepare for your Essence Fest debut performance?
I’m just rehearsing my butt off. I just want to have a good time and make sure the audience has a good time so I may look at old performances from other years to get a feel for what the audience is like but for the most part I’m just rehearsing.
Who are you most looking forward to seeing perform at this year’s 20th Anniversary of the festival?
Priiiiinnnce! I think everyone will agree with me. It’s just Prince. I’ve Never met him. I’ve never seen him in person or seen him in concert so it’s just Prince! Prince, Prince, Prince!
Name one legendary artist that has passed on that you wish was still alive to perform a duet with you at this year’s festival.
I would bring back Aaliyah. It would be really cool to bring her vibe to Essence. I would love that.
NOLA is so rich in culture, music, and food so what’s the first thing you plan on doing when you touch down 4th of July weekend?
I’ve never had crawfish. I wanna try crawfish. Everyone always tells me I never try it when I go to New Orleans so I’m definitely going to do it this time. I want to sit there with the cracker and pull off the head or however you eat them. New Orleans Style. Plus it’s my birthday weekend so I’m going to be extra turnt. My birthday is 7-7 so I can’t wait to get down there.
