As we mourn the passing of the great Maya Angelou, we remember all of the awards, recognitions and accolades she earned over the course of her illustrious career as an artist and activist.
The Grammy she won in 1994 for her poem “On the Pulse of the Morning” is particularly memorable. Commissioned by President Clinton, Angelou recited her poem during the 1993 presidential innaguration. During her Grammy acceptance speech, Dr. Angelou, dressed in a fuchsia floor-length gown, was humble as ever. “Imagine me getting a Grammy. Imagine that!”
