ESSENCE FEST would not be ESSENCE FEST without a Main Stage performance from Mary J. Blige. Since her debut Festival performance in 2002, the London Sessions singer has returned more than a dozen times and has been dubbed “The Queen of ESSENCE” by USA TODAY. Each year, Mary’s set is a fan favorite and this year, we couldn’t be more excited to jam out to her long list of hits in NOLA, once again.
Earlier this week, Mary caught up with “The Steve Harvey Morning Show” to talk about ESSENCE Fest, life in London and much more. The chat had a little extra flavor as her fellow ESSENCE FEST alum Tamar Braxton joined in to find out more about her Sunday show.
Blige told the listeners exactly what keeps her coming back, every year. “The fans, the 70,000 people that give you all of that energy and the food and the atmosphere and the different activities,” she said. “The event as whole is a beautiful thing. To see it all come together in peace and to see [people] enjoy one another, that’s what keeps me coming back.”
