Ivy McGregor is among the handful of extraordinary women who head up Beyonce’s philanthropic extension BeyGOOD, but she’s been a hard worker long before assuming a leadership role alongside one of the world’s biggest superstars.
An acclaimed philanthropist, author and Director of Corporate Relations for BeyGOOD, the accomplished Houston, Texas native had much to offer as she addressed attendees at the 2017 international edition of ESSENCE Festival in Durban, South Africa. Providing insight on what motivates her to do the life-changing work she’s dedicated her life to, Ivy spoke candidly about her childhood hardships that included her father’s decision to leave their home at very young age, leaving her mother to raise five children on her own.
No stranger to meager beginnings, Ivy recalled having to go without food often, but also shared fond memories of her mother’s resilience and commitment to ensuring that all her children were properly educated. She also credited her mom with changing the trajectory of both her own life and the lives of her siblings by never allowing them to become content with mediocrity despite their circumstances. Having witnessed firsthand the positive effects of compassionate church members delivering food to their doorstep, a spark was ignited in Ivy that ultimately led her to turn her passion for helping others into a lifelong career journey.
Today, Ivy continues to fulfill her mission, traveling the world and supporting sustainable aid solution, while inspiring others with her story of a little southern girl who turned her biggest dreams into reality.
