In the ’60’s, girl groups were all the rage…but Diana Ross and The Supremes were the end-all be-all. With their elaborate bouffant wigs, spangly, high-glamour gowns and “Motown charm school” airs, Diana Ross, Mary Wilson, Florence Ballard and later, Cindy Birdsong (pictured here) were the beauty ideal for a generation of Black girls. Back then, it was all about heavy black liquid liner, rows of faux lashes and pale pink lipstick.
