Back when Diana Ross became known to the world, she was the lead singer of the Supremes and she rocked a straight, short gamine pixie kind of cut that became the style to have. My mom and my aunties copied that style back in the day, nothing said sixties more than a Diana Ross-inspired ‘do!
I’ve already gone on and on about Central Park 1983, but in this era Diana changed her style and experimented with her music. Her hair was a resplendent mane of eighties excess – more volume, more curls, more, more, more!
By the 90’s, Diana Ross was still producing new music – in fact, Nile Rodgers produced her album Working Overtime (which was released in 1989). Working Overtime was in heavy rotation on BET back in those days and I loved her hair – long and loose, edgy and dramatic, the kind of hair you’d recognize even in silhouette.
I was lucky enough to see Diana Ross live at the Chicago Theatre this year and let me tell you, she puts on a SHOW. More costume changes than you can count and her hair is as beautiful and big as ever. Never change, Diana!
