Lizzo is more than just an entertainer – she’s a superhero. Throughout her career, she’s advocated for LGBTQIA+ rights, women empowerment, and has become the face of body positivity for this generation. Now, she’s tapping into her true superpowers in the official video for “Special.”
The third single from the critically-acclaimed album of the same name speaks to the beauty of individuality, and how the negative comments of others shouldn’t affect the overall feeling that you have about yourself. In the video, Lizzo portrays a waitress who is also a masked hero dedicated to saving little girls and people who can’t help themselves.
“In case nobody told you today, you’re special/ In case nobody made you believe, you’re special,” Lizzo sings in the video. “Well, I will always love you the same/ You’re special/ I’m so glad that you’re still with us/ Broken but damn, you’re still perfect.”
This new song comes behind the Billboard No. 1 “About Damn Time,” and its follow-up “2 Be Loved (Am I Ready).” Special’s lead single is currently nominated for three GRAMMY Awards — record of the year, song of the year and best pop solo performance — while the album is in contention for album of the year and best pop vocal album.
