Recently, rap superstar Gucci Mane and multi-hyphenate entrepreneur Keyshia Ka’oir welcomed a new addition to their family, a daughter named Iceland. But before they were parents to the newborn and big brother Ice, the Davises committed themselves to each other first. The pair have been married since October 2017, but they began dating in 2010.
See precious moments of the Davises throughout the years.
In The Autobiography of Gucci Mane, released in 2017, Gucci Mane writes that he was drawn to her because “She was resilient. She was a survivor.”
Ka’oir has indeed made it through a lot. Her father was killed, and her brother died after a gun misfired in a separate incident. Davis also opened up about the couple’s tumultuous history, revealing they’ve experienced many ups and downs in their relationship. From several stints in jail to drug use (Gucci’s addiction to lean), the Davises have been through their fair share of things. One moment he recalled vividly is when Ka’oir decided not to bail him out right away when he was placed in jail to serve three years for illegal possession of a firearm.
According to Davis, “Keyshia had good reason not to want to help me out,” he shared in his memoir, reflecting on his life-changing last arrest. “I’d gone crazy on her, first privately on the phone when she’d tried to talk me off the ledge and then on Twitter. But that wasn’t why Keyshia hadn’t come to bond me out. She’d taken every one of my phone calls since my arrest. Her phone bill was ridiculous from all my calls. Despite everything, she still wanted to help me. But Keyshia couldn’t get me out of jail.”
Davis has made it clear to his fans and supporters that Ka’oir has been with him through it all, including when he was incarcerated. She spoke with him five to six times daily, encouraged him to make healthier life decisions, and supported his sobriety.
“Gucci has always meant a lot to me. A lot of times, I feel like he’s misunderstood,” Ka’oir told Fader. “I know that I’m one of the few people that understands him. I was his biggest support system, and no matter what he goes through, I will be there for him. Why would I turn my back on him now?”
She continued, “We want to lose the weight, we want to focus, we want to be sober, we want to be more business-minded. Your brand means a lot; your fans mean everything to you. You have to do great music; you’re a parent.”
Davis was ultimately released on May 26, 2016. As a free man, he remained consistent with a healthy lifestyle and decided to deepen his relationship with Ka’oir.
In addition to his son from a previous relationship and his career, he’s known to list Ka’oir as one of the biggest blessings in his life.
Davis sought to make their partnership official at an Atlanta Hawks game in November 2016 when he asked for her hand in marriage. The couple had a star-studded wedding with celebrity guests, including 2 Chainz, Big Sean, and singer Monica, in October 2017. Their nuptials were featured on their 2017 BET series, The Mane Event. The couple has been together ever since.
“I had Keyshia, my first real love. The first woman I ever wanted to bring to a red carpet and let the world know this was my lady,” he wrote in his memoir. “She held me down the whole time I was locked up and showed me what it means to have somebody you can truly count on. I wanted to be able to return the favor.”
