You know what they say, diamonds are a girl’s best friend. As one of the designers to close out fashion week, Kevan Hall welcomed guests in a ballroom hall garnished with opulence — high ceilings, grand chandeliers, and gold accents.
His latest Fall Winter 2023 show, FACETED, is an ode to the Welsh icon, Dame Shirley Bassey, known for her sultry voice, sequined gowns, and lush jewelry. Hall loves a good Hollywood glamour reference, and it shows down the runway. “My work has the glamour of the burgeoning stars of music and the polish of a stunning ride that’s homegrown in Detroit!” he told Vogue in 2021.
From the start, we’re met with the sophisticated woman in crisp white garments accentuated by contrasting black pleats and stitching. It’s refined, polished, yet commanding. But Hall is far from done. The show then crescendos into gold-embellished tweed sets that look straight out of a Parisian postcard, perhaps a nod to his S/S 2022 collection. It wouldn’t be a Kevan Hall show if it did not include elegant silhouettes, this time dripped in strong velvet and fur moments, high gloss metal accents, and crystalline fabrics that thrive under the light. Gemstone hues break the assumption that sophistication is married to black-and-white color palettes. This elevated woman is not afraid to step out in emerald, sapphire, ruby, and amethyst.
If the collection didn’t already scream luxury, many looks were topped off with Diamonds from Jeffrey Daniels Unique Designs for Gem Platinum. As echoed throughout the show by Bassey, “Diamonds Are Forever.”
This season, the Kevan Hall runway is all about the modern woman enthused with timeless classics. In the world of FACETED, Hollywood glamour feels attainable.
