When it comes to shutting down red carpets, Laverne Cox never disappoints. Yesterday, the 31-year-old Orange Is the New Black actress flaunted her long, golden curls at the 2015 Emmy Awards with supreme fierceness. We asked her hairstylist Ursula Stephen (who was inspired by the clean silhouette of Cox’s Calvin Klein gown) the details on the look so we could try it at home. Her number one tip? Use hot rollers instead of a curling iron for added bounce. And, if you think Cox’s Emmy hairstyle is similar to her other red carpet moments, think again. Ursula says this style is more relaxed and carefree. “It’s smooth with the right amount of volume and curl,” she says. “It’s not overdone and in that it’s very similar to the brand and style of her Calvin Klein gown.” Follow the steps below to get Cox’s beautiful hair.
Step 1: Apply Motions Versatile Styling Foam on damp hair and blow dry with a round brush.
Step 2: Wrap medium sections hair around a 1″ barrel curling iron and curl upward.
Step 3: Set the hair with a ‘doobie’ by parting the hair down the middle from the crown to the nape and then wrapping around the head in a circular motion. Secure with bobby pins.
Step 4: Unpin and brush out the curls with a paddle brush. Spray Motions Light Hold Working Spritz to hold the look.
