It’s National Hair Day and we couldn’t be more excited to celebrate our wonderful coils, curls, kinks, waves and more. And with all the controversial conversations surrounding Black hair lately, it’s a much welcome opportunity to simply talk about the good stuff.
Right now there are companies making great hair styling products, tools, and gadgets specifically for the unique needs of our hair, and out hair routines. And they’re worth the coins they demand.
So in celebration of this day to honor our exquisite manes, I’m sharing five of the tools and gadgets that have me living my best hair days.
01
Glow by Daye Conditioning Cordless Heat Cap
In our busy lives no one wants to sit under a hot dryer or get hooked up to a bunch of wires just because their hair needs a deep conditioning. This wireless cap keeps the heat in for up to 30 minutes with flax seeds, so you can move around while you condition. Just pop it in the microwave for a few minutes and it’ll do the trick. Useful hack: cover up the top cap with another plastic cap to really keep the heat locked in for long.
02
Charlotte Mensah Medium Paddle Brush
I talk about this paddle brush to everyone with ears, which is pretty much everyone. The bristles on this brush are so smooth they glide through my hair no matter how tangled it is. Charlotte Mensah has been styling curly hair for more than three decades so I’m not surprised that she would come up with a tool so curl-friendly. The air-cushioned head and dynamically-shaped bristles detangle without causing damage to your strands. It’s more forgiving on hair than the hard plastic detanglers, but just as easy to clean.
03
Coco & Eve Hair Towel Wrap Microfiber Hair Turban
No more cutting up old clothes, or using that oversized shirt he left at your place to protect your wet curls on wash day. We’ve testified to the power of drying curls with a microfiber towel in the past and that testament still remains. It cuts down on drying time (eliminating the need for heat in a lot of instances) without stripping hair of all its moisture. And this cute microfiber towel wrap turban is fly enough to wear when he comes over to get that old t-shirt back.
04
Briogeo Scalp Revival™ Stimulating Therapy Massager
We know that massaging the scalp has been been credited with stimulating hair growth. But we also know that it’s a task easier said than done. Most people don’t find time in their day to sit still for 10 minutes and just work on their scalp. This helpful little massage tool will have you looking forward to those 10 minutes every day. Just press the rubber tips into the head with your preferred pressure and let it release the tension of the day while willing your hair follicles to reawaken.

Dyson Supersonic Wide Tooth Comb Attachment
If you’ve ever been fortunate enough to try the Dyson Supersonic hair dryer, then you truly understand the wonder of this brand and its styling products. Hair dries in just a few minutes. And now with this comb, made with curly and coily hair in mind, detangling while you dry is easier than ever. It’s also great for styling in so many ways.
Famed celebrity hairstylist Jawara even gave us some tips for achieving a super sleek look with this attachment: First spray just a bit of leave in conditioner on each parted section of dampened hair and then use the Dyson paddle brush on the sections to detangle hair. Then use the Dyson Supersonic hair dryer with the wide tooth comb attachment to start drying the ends of the hair, combing through the hair in a gentle fashion. Then proceed to run the Supersonic with wide tooth comb attachment from the roots to the ends to get a nice sleek finish.
