I’d like to think that I’ve mastered the art of a decent blowout, as I’ve been a dedicated DIYer for some time.
Any pro will tell you that the keys to supersmooth strands are being patient and working in small sections, but the most tedious part of my weekly straightening sessions is flat–ironing after I blow-dry. In search of a solution, I decided to see if the DAFNI Ceramic Hair Straightening Brush ($99, dermstore.com) could be the answer to my prayers.
While I’ve used hot styling brushes in the past, this latest easy-to-handle design seemed like a nice upgrade. I washed my hair and did a cursory blow-dry as I normally do before flat-ironing, then I cranked up the device until the red On button turned green. The instructions say to get the heated bristles (at the base of the brush head) as close to your tresses as possible. I worked in medium-size sections and noticed pretty much instant smoothing.
Pros: The tool definitely helped me get through the process faster.
Cons: It didn’t allow for the very close-to-the-root sleekness that I prefer, so I still had to hit some areas with my flat iron. Bottom line: It’s a great option for smoothing, particularly if you like a bit of volume at the root.
