Kerry Washington gives good style, she gives good face, she gives good hair—this isn’t new. At last night’s Emmys the actress had fun with her overall look, sporting a surprising white button-up shirt and sequins pants instead of the expected sleek dress. And as the unconventional awards outfit called for a really funky ‘do, she didn’t disappoint, pairing it with a fun tousled ponytail with long fringe bangs that framed her face.
Stylist Takisha Sturdivant-Drew who worked with the star to achieve the look was excited about the magic that they created.
“From the moment I saw what Kerry was wearing, I felt inspired to give her some sexy Brigitte Bardot hair in a modern classy way with height on the top and a ponytail,” she said. “I was so happy she didn’t do a standard gown and kept the look new and fresh. I razor cut the bangs for a more messy look.”
The stylist for TRESemmé not only used a handful of styling products that all cost $5 or less, she included hair from her own hair line, TSD Hair. With more than 20 years in business, the celebrity hairstylist is skilled with working with all hair types, including textured hair. Her line was created to offer quality 100 percent human hair in different textures so folks at home could get the types of styles she puts on the red carpet.
For Kerry’s look she used a bundle of hair to create the full pony, and another piece of hair to clip into the front for a bang. It was seamless and polished while giving a sexy bedhead feel. It’s a look that takes time from wash and prep, to the finishing hold spray.
But if you only have five minutes to get your hair together and get out the door, Sturdivant-Drew offered a pro suggestion. “To speed this up, blow dry quickly and tease hair well. Most importantly spray lots of TRESemmé Compressed Micro Mist Hair Spray Hold Level 2: Curl to hold in place. The hair spray will keep the style lasting all night long and without frizz —that’s the key!”
