Duafe, an all-natural hair care line, is the brain child of Syretta Scott, Philly naturalista, salon ower, and veteran natural hair stylist. She’s been using the products on her celeb clients (ehem, Jill Scott) for eight years, and recently introduced them to the public via her site, Dua-fe.com. I tested the Clarifying Shampoo, Hair Pudding conditioner and Hair Slicker styling gel ($10 each). The result: An unbelieveably awesome hair day. Here’s how it went down: I’d just returned from a trip to Costa Rica a few days prior and hadn’t taken the time to wash the sea and salt out of my hair. So I figured I’d go with the Clarifying Shampoo, a deep cleansing blend of African Black Soap, herbs and Vitamin C, D, and E. Scott suggests rare use of the cleanser, as it is intended for oily hair types. I focused on my scalp and let the shampoo run over my strands without lathering up. The conditioner wasn’t as thick as I’m used to but still provided the right amount of slip for detangling purposes. Thumbs up. The star product in my routine was the Hair Slicker, an aloe vera gel enriched with jojoba, almond and grapeseed oils. It’s light, almost fluffy and not at all sticky. The gel distributed evenly throughout my curls and helped me remove some of the most stubborn knots while finger styling. Two hours of air drying later and my hair was shiny, springy and fresher than ever. The texture felt soft and light—no crunchy curls. And I even got a few compliments on the fresh patchouli-esque scent (“What’s that fragrance you’re wearing?”…”Oh nothing, it’s my hair.”) So ladies, I think we’re on to something.
