Did you know that fall is the most important season when it comes to your hair? Researchers found that it is when hair sheds the most. Summer is a damaging season—from overexposure to the sun, chlorine and salt water—and fall is the time for the damaged hair to shed off. We asked Dr. Francesca Fusco of CLEAR Scalp & Hair to share her best hair tips for the seasonal shift ahead.
DO practice proper scalp care. Use a system dedicated to your hair and scalp type. If your hair is dry from too much sun, reach for intense hydration.
DON’T skip conditioner. Scalp skin is the same skin that we have all over. You wouldn’t (or shouldn’t!) skip moisturizing the skin on your face and body, so the same detail should be applied to your scalp and hair.
DO take a supplement. If you are not getting excellent nutrition through daily meals, a supplement can make a world of difference. My patients swear by pre natal vitamins.
DON’T use damaging hair accessories. Discard any accessories with a rough surface like thread bare pony bands, too tight headbands, old scratchy bobby pins.
