When Serena Williams showed up to the Royal Wedding rocking a beautiful protective style, that was the perfect combination of Senegalese twists and cornrows, we definitely took notice.
Not only did the Grand Slam queen look gorgeous, but her cornrow-twist combo was pulled into the perfect high ponytail, which made for a standout cultural moment.
And while it’s safe to assume a celebrity of her status would be over and done with a protective ‘do like this one in a matter of days, such has not been the case with this tennis phenom.
When Williams hit the court earlier this week for the French Open we couldn’t help but notice she was rocking the same hairstyle. This time around, her once long ponytail had been swept into the perfect topknot.
While we can’t blame her, we were extremely caught off guard. Surely Williams has the entire beauty world at her fingertips. So to see her wear a protective style for a few weeks was inspiring. As we all know, getting a style like this one can take upwards of six hours and can be rather pricey which means keeping them in for at least month is the norm, so we totally get it.
Williams has always been our homegirl (in our head) so to see this just made her that much more relatable. Now all we need to know what products she’s been using to keep them so fresh this entire time.
