Congratulations! If you have any kind of scalp condition and have made the decision to bury the creamy crack, I commend you. It’s not an easy decision to make for many women, even if it is detrimental to their hair and scalp’s health.
I remember when I attended Rust College in Mississippi, I went to the beauty shop in preparation for coronation during Homecoming. There was a lady ahead of me that I had seen around town before. She wore her hair wrapped around her head every. single. day. She never wore her hair down and I always wondered why. That day, the stylist unraveled her hair to reveal a large bald spot in the top of her head. My heart ached for her. That style was the only way to cover the hairless portion of her scalp. I tried not to stare. As I sat there, I would steal glances and quickly return my eyes to the outdated magazine I was reading holding. Then the stylist began to apply a relaxer to her hair. I was dumbfounded. This woman clearly had a severe scalp condition and the beautician thought it was appropriate to add chemicals to her already damaged scalp. I cringed in my seat. After this experience, I vehemently encourage women with and without scalp issues to go natural. If you have alopecia or a scalp condition, here are a few tips.
1. Use natural hair oils like jojoba, rosemary, lavender, thyme and castor oil on the thinning or balding spots. These oils improve blood circulation, cleanse the scalp and stimulates hair growth. Apply to your hair on a regular basis. Consistency is the key to seeing results.
2. Be gentle with all of your hair especially the hair directly around the balding or thinning areas. You don’t want to lose any more hair unnecessary due to rough handling.
3. Your transition will be different than others considering you have an adverse condition. Try to find naturals with alopecia on Youtube and blogs to learn what they did to help them as they transitioned and became natural.
4. In spite of how difficult it may get, going natural is the best decision. Yes, it may require more maintenance but it’s the absolute BEST option for your hair’s health.
Even if some patches on your scalp never re-grow hair, your natural hair will be thicker than your relaxed hair so it will be a bit easier to disguise and cover any bald spots. I can only imagine how difficult it is to deal with alopecia but there are ways to cope. Being a member on team natural is one major way. Good luck friends!
