Black women love their edges. Whether rocking our hair up in a bun or in a protective style, we take great care to keep our hairlines in tact.
Just recently, Porsha Williams confessed to being a naturalista who relaxes her edges with Just for Me. And she’s not alone. There’s a growing trend of Black women who admit that while they love their natural tresses, they like to use a bit of relaxer on their edges.
Finding the right products for your edges, learning how to properly care for them and even mastering the perfect laying technique (with or without a relaxer) can be quite consuming. So any time someone is willing to share their edge secrets with us, we’re all ears. Especially when said person is Vanessa Simmons.
“I’ve completely ruined my edges by not caring for my hair and constantly putting heat to it,” the Yummy Extensions ambassador recently shared with ESSENCE. “And this was maybe last summer so it wasn’t too long ago.”
Simmons has learned to give her edges some extra TLC after her summer breakage. “Stress on your hair can really damage edges, so I’m always having to condition them extra,” she said.
Like many of us, her favorite method for laying her edges down includes a toothbrush and edge control. She swears by ORS Olive Oil Edge because “it holds them down and gives it a good sheen.”
“Kera is also good,” she adds.
