For all the naysayers that swore a Black woman couldn’t rock red tresses well enough to play a mermaid princess, you’ve been shut down. Let’s face it, you were shut down before. But tonight, the mic was officially dropped when Zendaya hit the red carpet for the 71st Primetime Emmys. She showed that Black women in red tresses look like goddesses. She looked like she came straight out of the water in a gown of seaweed, threw on heels to match, and decided to grace this little awards show with her royal presence.
“Tonight’s look was extra special because Zendaya went back to red hair!” said the star’s hairstylist Ursula Stephen. “To complement the rich color, we decided to go for old Hollywood inspired soft waves, which went well with her jewel tone green dress and diamonds, for the ultimate Hollywood starlet look.”
Her drip could be felt through the screen like Rue taking that first hit of Fentanyl. We didn’t even realize that we had been holding our breath until we started breathing again. The red in her mane was extra vibrant, and looked especially vivid against her all green ensemble. The actress’ makeup was subtle but still gave us euphoria, with glowing skin, glossy lips, and full lashes that made her brown eyes pop. “The goal was a regal, classic look with glowy and dewy skin, letting her natural beauty shine,” said her makeup artist Sheika Daley, who used her Lancôme toolkit to get the look.
Stephen spilled the tea on her hair care and styling arsenal from Dove, Suave, and Love Beauty and Planet so you can achieve the look at home.
