Really stop comparing. We’ve all heard that comparison is the thief of joy. Yet we still do it not realizing how much of a distraction it is from actually getting real work done. If you want to be productive towards building your dreams, you have to focus on running your own race.
Accept that you are enough, assume that people will buy it, and that people will care. We tend to have to psych ourselves up to even try. Many of us suffer from the impostor syndrome of thinking we have no idea what we’re really doing. You can seemingly have all your ducks in a row, but if you don’t have the inner work taken care of, you will undoubtedly take some missteps on the journey.
It means everything to find other people pursuing similar goals in your field of interest. You can help one another with ideas, support each other when you feel stuck, and learn from one another’s experiences. Get out there and network and build relationships with people that are striving to be where you want to be and others that are already there.
We often get caught up in other people’s success stories not realizing we’re tuning in at about Chapter 10. You cannot despise small beginnings. Everyone had to start from scratch to build a fan base or client list, the key is just to start. So many of us will get stuck in the planning process and never learn to execute.
Wanting something is not enough. You have to learn as much as possible about what it is that you want to do. Learn the success stories or the pitfalls so that you can avoid them in your own journey. There are so many books, e-courses, and even Twitter chats that have a wealth of information that you can grow from.
There are a million things to busy ourselves with in the course of the day. But the key to dream chasing is learning how to most effectively use the time you have to produce maximum results. Be smart with your time and create systems and processes that will help you get more done in less time.
We definitely have to learn what to keep close because sometimes our visions are too big for the people around us. But we also have to learn when to share our desires and dreams because there could be people around that can help you get there. Everything in life is a balance, but you need to learn to discern what could lead to opportunities when you open up about where you’re headed.
As people we naturally have a lot of different interests. But the fact is that it’s really hard to be excellent at 20 different things all at once. In order to get where you want to be, you have to learn to focus on one or maybe two things at a time. Perfect the first thing and as you grow you will be able to expand and try more things.
