Amber Riley is in love again a little less than a year after she shared that she was back on the market after calling off an engagement. While visiting with media personality Jason Lee on his new Revolt talk show The Jason Lee Show, he mentioned that he’d run into her with a special someone. “I ran into you in Vegas and you had a whole ‘nother man,” he said, as her jaw dropped.
“That’s the new man?” he asked of the guy, whom some call “Scoobz,” to which she responded, “Yeah.”
“And you’re in love with him?” he questioned, to which she replied, again, “Yes.”
The Masked Singer winner went on to reveal how they met through their friends.
“So we have two friends, their birthdays are like five days apart so they had two birthday parties. He was at the first birthday party — it’s a really long story…he was at the first birthday party and we saw each other. We kind of like met outside,” she said.
He was helping her male friend, who was a bit inebriated, get in an Uber when they started talking.
“We kind of chopped it up a little bit and I was like, God…he is so cute,” she said. “And then I saw him again a couple of days later at our other homeboy’s birthday party and he was just like, ‘You need a drink?’ and ‘You look nice.’ And he was just like, he was nice. He was just really kind.”
Riley went public with her new beau on Valentine’s Day, where she shared a reel of some of their many moments together since they became an item.
“I am becoming better, so I can love you the way you love me. You’re the best person I know,” she wrote as the caption to the clip. “Happy Love Day my VALENTINE 💘 (Omg this is so mushy and gross but I love it 😂)”
In the spring of 2022, Riley shared that she and former fiancé Desean Black decided to call off their engagement, which they announced in 2020. The two met after she hopped in his DMs and hit it off. It’s unclear when exactly they broke up.
“I’m recently single,” she said while visiting the podcast Nice & Neat in March. “It was amicable. I wish him the best. I don’t have anything horrible or bad to say.”
“I learned lessons from every relationship I was in and I thank them and leave them with love and light. That’s all that I can do,” she added during the conversation at the time. “It’s not a passive aggressive ‘love and light’ because honestly, the only thing that I can control is me. And that’s the only thing I can focus on. I can only focus on my mistakes and what it is that I’ve done and how I’m going to do better. If I sit and think about every single thing that person may have done…for what?”
After walking away from that relationship, Riley began to share videos of herself on her fitness journey and ways in which she’s been eating differently and working on herself. During that time, men were in her DMs looking to shoot their shot, but she wasn’t into it, saying they didn’t show the same kind of interest before her weight loss. “Keep that same fatphobic energy player,” she wrote. “Ain’t 💩 changed over here but the scale.”
After focusing on herself, it seems she has found love when she least expected it, and she’s beaming once again. We love to see it! You can check out her full chat with Lee when the interview airs on Tuesday (Feb. 28) at 10 p.m. ET on REVOLT.
