Meet Ammarah Haynes, the subject of ESSENCE Black Girl Magic episode two and a Black Muslim teen who is doing everything she can to dispel myths surrounding her beliefs.
“As a Muslim woman, a lot of people things that I’m just submissive,” she said.
Award-winning director Madeline Hunt-Ehrlich follows Haynes’ journey as she settles into her routine in her new home of Durham, North Carolina and works to fit into her high school.

“I’m excited about shining a light on Islam and addressing the negative stereotypes,” Haynes said.
