From Beyoncé and Jay-Z's go-to NYC pizza spot to where Rihanna gets her sweet plantains, we've got your guide to eating like the stars in New York City.
New York City is a melting pot for different cultures, neighborhoods and of course, food. With so many options to choose from, it’s pretty hard to determine the best places to go.
If you don’t know where to start, why not draw inspiration from your favorite celebs? If these restaurants can make it here, then they can make it anywhere (or so they say). So put on your loose pants, pull at those purse strings and prepare to eat your way through the city like some of your favorite celebs at these heavily frequented hotspots.
Patsy’s Italian Restaurant Of New York
If it’s one of Oprah’s favorite things, then you know it’s a good choice. Patsy’s Italian Restaurant of New York, which has been owned by the original Scognamillo since 1944 is a legendary dining destination that has been known for years as Frank Sinatra’s favorite restaurant and has become a favorite with countless stars including Mama Oprah, herself. Also a favorite of Al Pacino, George and Amal Clooney and Jennifer Lopez, she is in good company, and you will be too.
Lucali
A visit to the city isn’t complete without a traditional New York slice of pizza. And for our royal couple The Carters — sorry Meghan and Harry — the best place to find it is at Lucali in Brooklyn. Showing love to his hometown, Jay Z often brings Beyoncé here, even telling Jimmy Kimmel that Lucali pies were the best, and that Bey preferred hers with jalapeños and extra tomato sauce. We’ll take two, please and thank you.
Ocean PrimeOcean Prime is a favorite of many celebs, especially Insecure star and creator Issa Rae. Though they have 14 locations throughout the country, our best friend in our head likes to come here as a home away from home during trips when she escapes the West Coast for New York City. During a recent visit, Rae kicked things off with champagne and chose an “off-the-menu” item, Ahi Tuna Rossini, for her dinner. Don’t worry — neither Lawrence nor Daniel were anywhere in sight.
Coppelia
Want to spot the bad gal, Rih Rih around New York City? You might get lucky and find her popping in to 24-hour Cuban restaurant, Coppelia, if you’re lucky. A city staple for the Bajan native, Rihanna can usually be found dining here in the early hours of the morning — likely after a night of party-hopping or just being Rihanna fab. Located in the Chelsea area, the restaurant which is owned for chef Julian Medina is inspired by a Havana luncheonette, and serves up delicious dishes such as its Cubano sandwich, sweet plantains, empanadas and other Pan-Latin fare. If you want to dine like Rihanna, order the Lomo Saltado, a soy-ginger glazed beef short rib stir fry with tomatoes, onions, fries, and white rice — it’s her fave.
Miss Lily’s
Kanye famously rapped, “I ordered the jerk, and she said you are what you eat.” Well he wasn’t lying, because Jamaican cuisine is one of his faves. So much so, that he once hosted his private 36th birthday dinner at famed Jamaican restaurant, Miss Lily’s. The restaurant has become a staple for him and other celebrities who want lowkey vibes, Caribbean food, and an intimate atmosphere, all while dining on some of the best Jamaican food that that New York City has to offer. The eatery, which serves up classic dishes such as serves up dishes such as authentic jerk chicken, oxtails, festival and curried goat, also doubles as an online radio station, juice bar and record shop stocked with goodies.
