Kith/Kin in Washington D.C.
Known as one of D.C.’s best up-and-coming restaurants, Kith/Kin is not only delicious, but also Black owned! Helmed by former “Top Chef” contestant, Kwame Onwuachi, the Afro-Caribbean restaurant is a labor of love, pulling from Onwuachi’s blend of Nigerian, Jamaican and American heritage. Your mouth will start watering as soon as you look at the menu, which serves up uniquely crafted dishes such as oxtail cavatelli, salmon escovitch, braised oxtails with jasmine rice, pigeon peas and oxtail jus tropical cream parfait and assorted sorbet.
Why She Loves It: As a person of West Indian descent I am always on the lookout for authentic flavors inspired by the Caribbean. Kith & Kin certainly delivers just that!

The Alex Craft Cocktail Cellar & Speakeasy
Washington D.C. has never had a shortage of nightlife options. But with so many options to choose from, it can be hard to determine the spot with the best “vibes.” The Alex is a speakeasy that is perfect for any crowd — it’s cozy, intimate and, of course, has unique cocktails. Located inside The Graham Georgetown, The Alex also plays live Jazz music on Saturdays, making it great for a date night, or a girl’s night on the town.
Why She Loves It: The drinks alone are an experience and overall, it’s a super fun vibe.

Union District Oyster Bar & Lounge
You can’t visit the DMV (as it is affectionately called), without getting some good ‘ol seafood. And if you’re on the hunt for some of the best — Chef Tobias Dorzon’s Union Distict Oyster Bar will most definitely hit the spot. The former NFL player and personal chef opened this eatery last year in Union Market, and it’s since become a local favorite serving up a range of oysters, seafood dishes, and brick-oven pizza.
Why She Loves It: After 11pm on Fridays & Saturdays the upper level lounge area is open. It’s a great after dinner spot.

Washington D.C. has a beautiful, rich Black history that must be experienced (and shared) by all. Thankfully, the National Museum of African American History & Culture is making it easier than ever for us to learn about our history in a unique and beautiful way.
Why She Loves It: It’s a highly recommended experience for anyone visiting D.C. no matter their background. African-American history is a cornerstone of American history.
