Singer Seal will not face criminal charges after actress Tracey Birdsall accused the crooner of sexual battery.
According to TMZ, the L.A. County District Attorney’s Office cited a lack of witnesses or evidence to corroborate allegations, adding that the statute limitations ran out. Birdsall says the attack happened in February 2016.
News broke in January that Birdsall had accused the singer of assaulting her after he allegedly groped and forcefully kissed the actress while she was retrieving a salad spinner from his home.
Birdsall says she came forward after Seal encouraged other women to share their stories of sexual assault.
Prior to the D.A.’s decision, Seal’s rep released a statement saying the singer “vehemently denies the recent allegations made against him by a former neighbor for alleged misconduct more than a year ago.”
Before Birdsall came forward with accusations, Seal shared a controversial meme featuring Oprah Winfrey and Harvey Weinstein, which many saw as the singer attacking the OWN mogul.
After backlash, he later added, “This was not an attack against Oprah. This was an observation of the toxic nature of Hollywood, and I believe a conscious people are a progressive people.”
