When Beyonce first released her hit single “Formation” back in 2016, Big Freedia was a huge part of its appeal.
The song, released right before Beyonce’s appearance in the Super Bowl 50 halftime performance, was an instant hit. But Big Freedia herself never made it in the iconic video, filmed in her hometown of New Orleans.
The Queen of Bounce finally revealed the reason why — and it wasn’t because Beyoncé dropped the ball.
“I’m not worried about being in no video,” she told Wendy Williams in a new segment called, Backseat Heat. “But they did call about doing the video, but I was on tour and it was shot in New Orleans.”
“So I missed it,” she added.
She also recalled when Beyonce first asked her to be on the song.
“She called and she said she had something that she wanted me to do — a project. The project happened to be ‘Formation,’” Freedia said. “They sent me probably a three-second snippet of the song for me to come up with a line. So what I did is take the three-second snippet and looped it over and over and over, did the lines, and we sent it back.”
And history was made!
