Kelly Rowland carries her influencer status with pride.
The singer has been in the music spotlight for nearly 20 years, and somewhere along the way, she began to understand her own #BlackGirlMagic.

“I remember seeing a group of younger girls, and there were all these cute little chocolate girls, like 16, 17, 18 years old,” Rowland told ESSENCE.com. “They were like, ‘We love you because we can relate to you. I feel like I can be like you’…that’s really precious.”
It was in that moment that Rowland not only understood her own magic, but embraced her role model status in its fullest.
“When somebody says, ‘You’re a role model,’ I’m like, ‘Yes, I am,’” she said. “It’s something on your chest. You have to wear that with honor because it is young people looking up to you. You don’t ask for it, that’s true, but at the same time, if God is going to trust you with it, you have to be responsible.”

Rowland wants to make sure that all young girls learn to love their chocolates selves, just like she has.
“I love being a chocolate girl,” she said with pride.
