Actress LisaRaye McCoy has lost her mother, Katie McCoy, and is experiencing a grief many are all too familiar with. The media personality, 55, shared the sad news with fans on Instagram over the weekend.
“I’m numb. I lost my mother last night,” she wrote in a caption. “It was expected but never could I prepare. Being strong is what you taught me but I can’t say it applies today. I will make your transition a celebration of memories that I’ll cherish. I’ll miss you.”
This news comes a few days after the actress told fans her mom wasn’t doing well on The Breakfast Club with Charlamagne and DJ Envy. She was a guest host on the podcast and spoke of how she currently has several family members living with her at home including her daughter and grandchild. That conversation led to her revealing that her mom wasn’t in the best place with her health.
“My mom is sick. And so I’ve been taking care of her for the last couple of years,” McCoy said. “And so I’m really honored to be able to spend that time with her. But it’s heavy, and it’s stressful, and emotional.”
McCoy also said that she and her mom were moving past the issues they shared with the world and were focused on healing.
“It’s no secret we did Iyanla, Fix My Life a couple of years ago. But the tables have turned,” she said. “She’s not the strong vibrant woman she was when she was raising me. So now I’m seeing my mom deteriorate in front of my face and it’s hard for me to even watch that.”
McCoy continued, “There’s just sorrow and guilt and that’s too much emotions to go through every day all the time.”
LisaRaye and her mom appeared on season seven of Iyanla, Fix My Life to hash out the issues in their relationship in 2021.
