So, scientifically, a visit to Hawaii just may be better for your health. If it’s been on your list for some time, or you’re in need of a redo— here are a few things you’ll want to add to your itinerary.
The people
Hawaii is considered to be one of the most ethnically diverse states in the entire country, so it’s no surprise home that the people who reside there would make this one of the draws. In 2019, for example, 24.2% of Hawaii’s population was multiracial, identifying as two or more races. But even more, the state’s residents are some of the friendliest people around — and you experience it as soon as you walk off the plane with your first “Aloha!” Who wouldn’t be this happy when you live on an island all year long?
The hotels
Who doesn’t love a good hotel stay? And for some, depending on your experience, it can make or break your entire trip. Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa recently underwent a $80 million resort-wide transformation, making it one of the most sought after hotels to stay at on the island of Honolulu — so there’s no need to worry about experiencing a hotel horror. Situated just steps from world-famous Waikiki Beach, the newly-reimagined Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa spans 5.2 acres of picturesque beauty and splendor, offering unparalleled service, thoughtful amenities and sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean. The beachfront resort boasts 1,310 refreshed guest rooms, including 135 suites, each with floor-to-ceiling windows and a balcony (lanai) that showcases the island’s natural beauty.
While you’re there, guests can indulge in the resort’s Queensbreak pool and amenity deck – a luxurious oasis floating among the palm trees and overlooking the shores of the Pacific Ocean. The open-air pool deck is the pinnacle of the redesigned resort and offers two luxurious pools, a kids play area with water features, entertainment areas, poolside bar and a new outdoor restaurant concept.
The shopping scene
If you’ve never heard of “Hawaii prices” it’s seriously time to get hip. Luxury goods are cheaper in Hawaii than in the mainland US, with discounts up to 20% less on brands such as Fendi, Gucci, Louis Vuitton and more. Waikīkī’s premier shopping, dining, entertainment, and cultural destination, Royal Hawaiian Center is comprised of nearly 90 shops and restaurants over three city-blocks of world-renowned Kalākaua Avenue, making it the perfect place to spend a couple of hours or even the whole day. The Center stands proudly upon historic land known as Helumoa, once home to Hawaiian royalty. While you’re there, make sure you dine at Noi Thai — it’s a President Obama favorite!
The untouched beauty
With over 750 miles of coastline and over 400+ beaches, many of which are vastly different from one another and open to the public, you’re sure to find a beach in Hawaii that’s perfect for you and your travel companion/s. Some parts of Hawaii are beautiful and unspoiled, and have been preserved by the Hawaii Chapter of The Nature Conservancy. to look the same as they did thousands of years ago. It is quite easy to find a piece of secluded paradise if taking the scenic route, instead of traveling the majorhighways.
The endless adventure opportunities
Where there are islands, there is water, and Hawaii has a wide assortment of ocean — and land — activities of which you can partake. Sharking cage diving? Hiking a volcano? ATV riding through the Jurassic Park movie set? Surf lessons on the beach? Helicopter tour into the crater of Mt. Waialeale? You name it, you’ll sure be able to do it when visiting the Hawaiian islands.
