This past weekend, New York City’s Black elite were out and partying with a purpose for the Greater Queens Chapter of The Links, Incorporated’s 23rd Masquerade Ball. Held at the luxurious Terrace on the Park in Flushing Meadows Park, NY, the majestic affair serves as the organization’s major annual fundraiser supporting the Greater Queens Links, Incorporated Scholarship Fund.
Keeping with the night’s theme “Leading with Excellence, Serving Greater Queens with Grace,” Dr. Kimberly Jeffries Leonard, the National President of The Links Incorporated and Jacqueline Arrington-Pinkard, President of Greater Queens Chapter of The Links, Incorporated had the honor of presenting “The Exonerated 5”, (previously known as “The Central Park 5”), with the chapter’s inaugural “Phoenix Award.” Dr. Yusef Salaam and Korey Wise accepted the award on behalf of the group. This year’s scholarship recipient, Dane Allen, a freshman at Cornell University, received the Murial E. Baldwin Memorial Scholarship for his outstanding academic achievements.
The rest of the event saw over 700 guests dancing the night away, and participating in the Silent and Chinese Auctions in which proceeds would go towards the chapter’s programs of service within the Queens Community.
