ESSENCE recently participated in the TYWLS (The Young Women’s Leadership School) Works! Program by inviting students from its Astoria, Queens campus to spend the day in our New York City offices. We asked the girls to describe their school to us so we could share it with the ESSENCE.com community.
“We love our school. It is a diverse, all-girls public school located in Astoria, Queens, which consists of a close-knit community of college bound students who are supported by a faculty who encourages us to achieve our goals and dreams,” the students agreed.
The Young Women’s Leadership Network allows sophomores to explore different career opportunities and industries through the TYWLS Works! Program.
“Partnering with companies like ESSENCE magazine inspires us to never give up and never let others bring you down,” the students agreed. “Today, we received good advice from different levels of experienced employees. It was great to see how all departments – Editorial, Marketing, Advertising Sales and Online – all come together to achieve one goal. We learned that we should always make time to do what we want and what is in our heart; to be open to wearing different hats and never be afraid to make changes.”
ESSENCE welcomes any opportunity to help mentor and inspire young women. Cheers to the young ladies of The Young Women’s Leadership School.
