There’s no denying that you’re looking for a destination that has it all – views, beaches, culture and food – Brazil checks off every box on the list. The South American country is a popular pick amongst Black travelers, and is filled with so much to do and see that one trip is never enough.

René Daniella (@ownbyfemme) recently hit the streets of Rio de Janeiro, and took her followers on a tour through the city that left us ready to catch a flight. From learning samba to experiencing the beauty of Sugar Loaf Mountain, if these photos don’t make you want to cross Brazil off your bucket list, we’re not sure what will.

Bem-vindo ao Brasil (Welcome to Brazil)
The largest country in both South and Latin America, Brazil is a destination that will stimulate all your senses. From the minute you arrive, the vibrancy of both the people and culture will take hold of you. The best time to visit Brazil’s second largest (and most well known) city, Rio de Janeiro, is between December and March, when the weather is pleasant enough for you to hit the beach. If you’re looking to really take in Brazilian culture, go in February when Carnival fever hits the city. Set up camp at the Sofitel Rio de Janeiro Ipanema Hotel so you’re close to all the action.

For the People
Escadaria Selaron or the “Selaron Steps” are the work of Chilean-born artist, Jorge Selarón and are one of Rio’s most famous landmarks. Created by Selaròn as his “tribute to the Brazilian people,” the steps run from Joaquim Silva street to Pinto Martins street and are pretty hard to miss. After the steps, head to Bar Astor for oxtail with polenta and pork-and-black-bean stew.

Bucket List Check
A trip to Brazil is not complete without a visit to the larger than life Christ the Redeemer statue, one of the 7 New Wonders of the World. The statue draws thousands of tourists each day, so get there before 8am or after 3pm if you want to avoid the crowds (and the heat).

If you went to Brazil and didn’t hit the beach, did you even really go? The beaches in Brazil are known and loved by travelers across the globe. Head to Rio’s Ipanema Beach to get your dip and tan on.
