When the holidays come around, London is one of the most magical cities in the world to visit if you’re in the spirit.
I know first hand how the metropolis in the heart of England transforms into a place of full of Christmas joy. With famous streets dripping in lights and grandeous decor, more than enough markets to satisfy every holiday craving and amazing places to shop for all the things on your holiday shopping list, the London holiday scene is everything. (There’s an actual Winter Wonderland!)
Taking a trip across the pond during the holidays this year? Here’s your must list for the season.
1. Hit Up Harrods
Year round, London’s Harrods department store is an amazing place to shop, but during the holidays, it’s just glorious. Between the seasonal decorations, the music and movies, and not to mention the abundance of yummy food options, the famous department store is abundant with pretty, shiny wonderful holiday things that will instantly get you into the holiday spirit.
Check out the store’s many holidays offerings for shoppers and tourists—and trust us when we say you need a day devoted taking it all in. There’s an entire floor dedicated to toys (which your inner child will love), a food hall that serves just about every delicacy your appetite can dream up and enough designer goods to complete your holiday shopping list.
Do not leave without visiting the holiday ornament section, because it is truly, honestly, iconic.
2. Skate At Somerset House
Ice skating is always a holiday season must during the winter months, and if you’re planning to hit the ice during your visit to London, there is no better place to do it than the Somerset House.
Listen out for the sound of your favorite Christmas carols as you move along the ice and around a giant and beautifully decorated Christmas tree. What better backdrop does your winter wonderland fantasy need? The Somerset House has a rich history as an arts center in the heart of London. Enjoy it with bae, the whole family or solo.
If you really want to show off your skating skills, come through for Club Nights on the ice for a whole new experience. When you’re all done, there’s hot chocolate, wine and yummy eats waiting for you too.
3. Celebrate In Covent Garden
Spend a dope day checking out Covent Garden and we promise there’s no way you’ll be disappointed. Between the shopping (because that’s always a good idea) and the outdoor attractions, like the Apple Market eats, decorations and vendors, you’ll be immersed in your London holiday.
4. Oxford Street
Once the Christmas lights are turned on illuminating Oxford Street to kick off the holidays, it’s literally lit in the best way possible. (With nearly 1,800 lights aligning the street, it’s truly a sight to see, and absolutely worth Instagramming.) Whether you’re on the hunt for some last minute shopping or just up for an evening stroll to take in the sights, walking down one of London’s busiest streets is a must for your holiday visit.
5. Walk Through Winter Wonderland
Hyde Park is the ultimate place to be dazzled and dined during the holidays in London.
There’s an ice bar, a magical ice kingdom, Cirque Berserk and a giant ferris wheel that lets you see all of the park once you reach the top. Does one really need anything more for the holidays? Whether you’re with the one you love or have some little ones in toe, everyone will leave the park in the Christmas spirit. The Christmas markets, rides and games, Santa Land and food and drink menu (think: delicious hot mulled wine) are really what holiday season magic is made of it’s the perfect stop to complete your London wonderland visit.
