I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again: there is no hotel brand quite like the Four Seasons.
I’ve stayed at many luxury resorts before (dozens, in fact), and there’s just something about this brand that brings me peace of mind every time. So when I had an opportunity to set my sights on the new Four Seasons Resort Cabo San Lucas at Cabo Del Sol, I knew exactly what I would be in for — our so I thought.
Was I wrong? Absolutely. Why? Because it far exceeded what I’d ever imagined, in the best way possible.
It wasn’t your typical “welcome to paradise” experience. From the moment I stepped onto the grounds, I knew this place would redefine what luxury means to me, and honestly, I wasn’t prepared for how much I needed this level of intentional care and attention, especially at the end of the year, where the weight of wins, losses, accomplishments and failures that had all come creeping up on me.
But less about me, and more on the property — Four Seasons Resort Cabo Del Sol recently opened its doors along the stunning Sea of Cortez, to much anticipation and fanfare. TDLR (or “too long, didn’t read” for all of my expert email writers out there): With 96 guest rooms and suites, plus 61 residences, villas and estates, the resort manages to feel both grand and intimate – no small feat for a resort of this caliber. Additionally, while the modern hacienda-style architecture creates an immediate sense of place, it’s the staff’s genuine warmth that truly sets the tone for what becomes an unforgettable stay that had me planning my return before I’d even packed my bags. And did I mention one of the only swimmable beaches in Cabo? But let’s dive into more specifics.
A Suite That Feels Like Coming Home
Like I mentioned before, a getaway at the end of the year was just what the doctor (and by doctor, I mean me), ordered for this particular vacation. I was determined to focus on rest, relaxation and rejuvenation and this was all of that and then some. As I stepped through the door to my room, my accommodations felt like more than that – it was my own perfectly curated sanctuary. To give you context on size, even the smallest room on property is probably larger than the average New York City apartment. And the design team clearly understood the assignment, blending contemporary luxury with Mexican-inspired elements that felt authentic rather than themed. Floor-to-ceiling windows opened to a private terrace with breathtaking views, and my very own plunge pool, soI found myself waking up early just to watch the sunrise paint the sky in shades I didn’t even know existed, and yes, I’m typically the person who sets multiple alarms just to sleep in.
Service That Reads Your Mind (In the Best Way)
The staff here doesn’t just serve – they anticipated my needs in a way that feels almost supernatural. As I walked around the property — from the restaurants, to the spa, to the beach — everyone greeted me as Ms. Wilson (seriously, how did everyone know my name?). Whether it was the concierge arranging a spa treatment on my behalf, or the attendant helping me in and out of the sauna (with a cold towel to cool me down), or the thoughtful note left in my room with special treats, every interaction felt personal and genuine. This wasn’t the rehearsed luxury you sometimes encounter; it was service that made you feel seen and valued.
Dining That Takes You Places
First and foremost, and I say this with the utmost sincerity: I don’t think there has ever been a property that had better on site dining. Ever. The food scene here deserves its own article, but let me tell you about Cayao by Chef Richard Sandoval — the Nikkei cuisine restaurants where Peruvian meets Japanese fusion. And while I had never thought about a combination of the two delicacies previously, this was an experience that had me texting folks back home, “You won’t believe what I just ate.” Their ceviche-sushi fusion is the kind of innovative dining that makes you question everything you thought you knew about fusion cuisine — in the best possible way.
But that’s not all. Palmerio offered Mediterranean dishes with a Baja twist that somehow managed to feel both familiar and entirely new, while Sora, the rooftop lounge, became my go-to spot for sunset cocktails that tasted as gorgeous as they looked against the cotton candy sky.
Wellness That Goes Beyond the Spa
Let’s talk about the Tierra Mar Spa because this isn’t your typical massage-and-go situation. The treatments here feel more like rituals, designed to restore both body and mind. My massage therapist seemed to instinctively know exactly where I was holding tension I didn’t even realize I had, and the ocean sounds floating through the space added an extra layer of serenity that had me floating out of there feeling like a new person.
Even the fitness center, designed by celebrity trainer Harley Pasternak, managed to make working out feel less like a chore and more like a gift to myself – though I’ll admit, those ocean views definitely helped motivate my morning sessions. I can even proudly say I went to the gym (and defeated the Stairmaster) every day during my trip.
The Bottom Line
This isn’t just another luxury hotel review – it’s a reminder that sometimes we need to step away from our daily lives and immerse ourselves in an environment that’s designed to help us reset and reconnect with ourselves. Just 30 minutes from Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) and 15 minutes from Cabo San Lucas International Airport (CSL), the Four Seasons Cabo Del Sol understands this on a deeper level, creating spaces and experiences that remind us that luxury isn’t just about high-end amenities – it’s about how those amenities make you feel.
For Black women who so often find themselves carrying the weight of both personal and professional responsibilities, this resort offers more than just a getaway – it provides a space where you can fully exhale, where luxury feels like your birthright rather than an indulgence. And sometimes, that’s exactly what we need to remember our own worth.
Is it an investment? Yes. Is it worth it? Absolutely. Because when you find a place that not only meets but anticipates your needs, that celebrates your desire for excellence while allowing you to fully relax into yourself – that’s not just luxury. That’s necessary.
